Contemporary Candles is a small company owned by Dave & Wendi Kast. We are a true internet couple, having met online (through a hearing loss support group) and now owning a business that is exclusively online.
We made the decision to keep our business small so that we can be sure of quality control — we do everything, from pouring the candles by hand, packing and shipping orders, website maintenance and advertising. This also allows us to be home with our two children, who were fairly young when we began the business. Although they’re older now, they probably need more attention at this time than they did in previous years!
We share our home (and workshop) with our dog, two cats, and two guinea pigs. Every animal we own has been rescued and/or adopted from a shelter — even the guinea pigs!
We’ve joked about writing off our cable as a business expense…we are avid TV-watchers and do most of our favor wrapping and votive-cleaning while we watch our regular shows. Our wedding gift to each other was our TiVo…and we just can’t imagine watching TV without it now!
In his spare time, you’ll find Dave messing around with Linux on his computer, reading SlashDot, or playing Unreal Tournament.
Wendi is a Snood fan (a little less blood and gore, thank you!), really enjoys quilting (but has no time for it at the moment) and reading.
